Hard Copy Backups

Today's new digital world brings new technology and new ways of doing things when to compared to just a few years ago. Now I love technology but what would happen if one day everyone was hit with a virus and all our online data information was lost. Sure we have our cloud backup to save us from disaster. But if that failed, how can you prove that you own what you own and you have what you currently have. It might seem like a pilot for a new movie, but it's not.
Today we live in a society where it's alright to get paperless statements from the same guys that recently caused our economy melt down. Are you risking your entire life savings or existence on these guys, again?
My deep thinking is not to scare off people from the new technological age but to make them aware that it's not a bad idea to keep a hard copy of bank statements, mortgage payments, car payments, investment summary, etc. on hand. You never know when your going to need them or when they would one day be useful.
Identity theft is a may concern why many people go paperless. But in reality, your making it way to easy for someone to erase you from society should we ever have a technological melt down.
My advice to others is to make several backups of your financial information, have hard copies of bills and year to date balances. And don't ever take for granted on how far we have come in the technological era.

Microsoft bets on XP Disaster

It's sad that this big software giant is going this way because it just showing how little they valve the product that they sell. Ending XP earlier and pushing new software on it's current customer will irritate many. Microsoft years of being the best on the block is over and if they're smart, they would do whatever it takes to keep it's current customers. It's only a matter of time before another software company takes over. Maybe Microsoft should start looking for new ways to make money and stop killing something that still works.
But in the end what this means is that April 8, 2014 is that last days for XP.

Online Backup Reviewed

Here's the review for online backup. It's not bashing other vendors but it gives you the results of the best feature that they currently offer when compared to other online backup companies.

1- CrashPlan - it's not number one because it's great, but if you consider pricing important. Then CrashPlan would be your first option on savings.
2- Carbonite it's still in work in process if you don't mind slow uploads and bandwidth throttling speeds.
3- Mozy use to be very popular a few years back, but that all changed when it dropped it's unlimited plans and started a tiered plan in early 2011.
4-SOS Online Backup, it's not the cheapest when compared to apples and oranges. But it has a continuous data backup feature that backups a new version, the instant a file is changed, not seen elsewhere.
5-Linedrive is the military grade AES-256 program with competitive pricing.
6- Bitcasa are making small but important movements and in time I hope that they will be better.
7- Backblaze - if your worried about complicated or confusing online backup, this company will take that fear away.
8- SpiderOak - it's a unique refer a friend program that can get you 12 GB free.
9- SugarSync - if you want more than an online repository for safety, you'll like this one.
10- Acronis True Image Online - you can backup 5 computer images online with one account.

Different Types of Virus

There are various types of computer infections in the world that  when you get infected most technician's usually would tell you that you have a virus instead of something else.
In the computer world these are the types of computer infections you can get such as a Malware, a virus, a worm, a trogan, spyware, adware, keylogger, a bot, a botnet, a rootkit and ramsonware.
There all bad news for technicians when they appear on your computer. They not only take control of of how your computer performs but what it does on a regular basis.
Now If I was going to explain to a customer that they had a Rootkit, it could take hours or days to explain to them what a Rootkit does. Not all users are tech savvy to understand computers. So  telling a user they had a virus is more understandable since everyone does get a virus and most user's are aware what a virus is. This is the reason many technician call infections a virus. In the end your computer gets infected the similar way and is inaccessible.
For those user's who really want to know the various types of virus infections in the computer world. Here is the list with a brief explanation on what it does.

Disable Windows 8 Smart Screen

Tired of Windows 8 telling you that the software you download is safe or not safe. All you have to do is disable Smart Screen and take control and Windows the way it use to be in the old days.
Software is meant to be free and when you want to install third party software, it should be your choice on what you want to install without the help of Windows.
Microsoft tries to control everything about users and here's another one of those features they are trying to incorporate into their software to control what you install in their operating system.

Here's how to remove it::

Internet Explorer has long had a feature called SmartScreen, which was first implemented in Internet Explorer 8, and has since been a part of IE9, IE10, Hotmail, and now Windows 8. When you visit a website, or open a file, SmartScreen communicates with Microsoft and checks if that website/file are whitelisted or not.
In both cases, SmartScreen pops up a warning if you try to visit a site or open a file that isn’t confirmed to be safe. As a defense against malware, SmartScreen is actually rather effective — and, really, no other browser or OS offers the same kind of protection. SmartScreen can be a little irritating, though, especially if you regularly download third-party EXEs from the internet.
Windows 8 SmartScreen settings - disabling SmartScreenFor a start, when you see your first SmartScreen warning (pictured above), don’t be alarmed. It may look like Windows is completely blocking you from running an app, but in actuality you just have to click “More info” to reveal the “Run anyway” button.
To disable SmartScreen entirely, though, hit the Windows key, type SmartScreen, change to the Settings tab, and then click “Change SmartScreen settings.” From there, click “Change Windows SmartScreen settings” from the left-hand menu, then select the “Don’t do anything” radio button.

Will XP Work After Support

Windows XP is near it's final days and many users are asking simple questions like if the software will stop working?, will antivirus stop protecting Windows and you name it.
No need to worry when compared to old version of Windows that Microsoft no longer supports. All that you can expect is that you system will no longer do any updates and if you get malware or virus. We'll your on your own. But if you think about it, nothing has changed when it comes to Windows.
Microsoft is still using it's scare tactics to force users to upgrade at our expense. In the long run if you decide to upgrade or not Windows will always be Windows. Which is an unstable unfinished operating system that everyone praises so much with lots of security holes.

Goodbye XP

Why should users stay away from emails that are hosted from their local internet carriers?
       (ex. YourName@att.com or YourName@comcast.net, etc.)
This question has been asked by many of my customer and friends and I keep on telling them over and over the same information.
An email address is like a home address. Once you give your home address to someone. You'll hope they'll always have it on hand and call or contact you at home when ever they need you.
Your email address works the same way but here where it gets a little funny. Let's say now, you have currently DSL at your home address and move next month. Now your current email at YourName@att.com will probably have to change depending on where you decide to live. So if you move to an area where DSL is not available or DSL is not suitable to use, your 2nd choice is to get your internet access from Cable. Now you loose your email address at YourName@att.com because your no longer with At&t and you now have to create a new name at YourName@comcast.net.
The same goes vise versa for cable. In every way possible you can easily loose your email address and have to create a new one from scratch. Now all of your friends, family and followers will have a difficult time keeping up with you because you keep on changing your email address more than once. And most of them will not probably update your email address because they already aware that you will change it again.
This is where Yahoo, Gmail and Outlook come in.
Now by opening an account with these web based email hosting sites you risk user's from loosing contact with you and they will always remember your email address.
This might not work with almost everyone, but if you do it correctly you will be a step ahead on having a permanent address on the world wide web.
