Google Pack

.........Good article from Google ................
Google Unwraps the Google Pack

Free Software Package Offers Users One Stop to Discover, Install and
Maintain a Wide Range of Essential PC Programs

CES, LAS VEGAS, Nev., January 6, 2005 - Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG)
today announced Google Pack beta, a free collection of safe, useful
software from Google and other companies that improves the user
experience online and on the desktop. In just a few clicks, users can
easily discover, install and maintain software to surf the web faster
and safer, communicate better, and effectively manage information.

"We've heard from countless new computer owners that it can take
days or weeks to install all the software they need to make their
computer useful," said Marissa Mayer, VP of search products and user
experience at Google. "We developed Google Pack to give users a way
to painlessly install all the essential software they need -
pre-configured in a sensible way - in a matter of minutes. Better yet,
users don't have to keep track of software updates or new programs
- we maintain and update all the software for them."

Google Pack offers programs that meets Google's high software
standards and are considered best in their class, including:

· Adobe Reader 7
· Ad-Aware SE Personal
· GalleryPlayer HD Images
· Google Desktop
· Google Earth
· Google Pack Screensaver
· Google Talk
· Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer
· Mozilla Firefox with Google Toolbar
· Norton AntiVirus 2005 Special Edition
· Picasa
· RealPlayer
· Trillian

Google Pack also includes Google Updater, a new tool that intelligently
downloads, installs and maintains all the software in the Google Pack.
Google Updater alerts users when updates and new programs become
available and ensures each program is always up-to-date. Google Updater
can also be used to monitor the status of installation, run software
that's been installed, or easily uninstall software.

Users can easily select which programs they want to install. For
programs already installed on a computer, Google Updater checks whether
the latest version is running. If not, Google Updater will install the
latest version.

Every program included in the Google Pack is free, has earned a
reputation for excellence, and was evaluated to ensure it meets
Google's Software Principles. Google respects users' rights to
control their own computers and does not include software that is
spyware, generates pop-ups, or that is difficult to uninstall.
Additional information on Google's Software Principles is available
at http://www.google.com/intl/en/corporate/software_principles.html.

Google Pack beta is available in English, runs on Windows XP, and
supports Firefox 1.0 and higher and Internet Explorer 6.0 and higher.

DSL Modem Trouble Shoot

This is one of my favorite PC Magazines and one interesting article came up on February 2006 issue that I never heard of before but it's one of those good ones.

The Problem:
DSL modem looses the internet connection for no apparent reason. The activity LED goes dark but the DSL indicator remains lit. And the telephone line at times you unable to get a dial tone. I am using the line filters that they recommend. What do you think the problem is?

Solution:
Everyone would assume it's the DSL modem. But there is no dial tone. The only possible solution is change the DSL line filter that goes to the phone which either had short circuited or failed. But this did require a phone call to the ISP.

Email Accounts Paid Services vs. Free Emails

I've been telling people in the past about this for such a long time and at least someone was able to write it down and confirm my belief.
This is the reason why I advise for people not to use their paid service provider like AOL, MSN or Earthlink emails.
If you ever cancel the service. Guess what? You loose the email address.
This is why it's so important to use a separate email service for your email.
To easily send mail and to be able to keep that email service regardless of how you get onto the internet.

Sell Your Textbooks

School books are just a big scandal.
You buy these expensive books never really to recoup the actual cost you spent when you resell them. The best site that I found lately is Amazon.
You have to open an account with them and your choices are either direct debit to your checking account or credit card, etc.
All you have to do is wait until someone buys your book at the price you think is reasonable. If they buy it you ship and get your money. That simple.
It's better than getting only $35- for a book that you already spent $150- for.
Try it and get your moneys worth.
Don't settle for what the bookstore value are.
Stay ahead of the game and sell your books using this link.

CD & DVD Drive Disappearing from Computer

This is a good start to have your computer try to find your CD & DVD drive that all of a sudden disappeared.
I highly Do Not recommend anyone to do this.
But if you asked and wanted to know. Then this will be hopefully the fix to correct the missing problem. In most cases this tip works. In other cases it's a little more complicated.
Remember to back up your current windows registry settings before you begin and if anything goes wrong make sure you have a nearest technician to go to.
The down side about messing up and editing your windows registry is that you will have to re-format your computer again and loose whatever information you had on it.

The central station in turn notifies the police and the police follow the ISP to the original user where the laptop sent it's last information from. The crooks get nabbed and hopefully you get your laptop back.
So laptop thieves beware, this software is out there to get you.
Subscription fees are reasonable but worth the cost of loosing your valuable laptop.

Besides the standard functions that all cordless cell phones have. The phone is still a good investment. Now I can have my cell phone charging and use my home phone to answer my local and cellular calls. With the standard head base or other bluetooth accessories.
Hope to see more of these phones popping up in the future.

How to make your Cordless Phone Last Longer

How to Make Your Battery Last Longer
Get the most juice from your cordless phone with these GH Institute tips.

Charge the battery completely as soon as you take your new phone out of the box. The first charge will probably take about 20 hours, but be sure to check the manual. And don't interrupt the charge ?- you could permanently shorten the battery life. When done correctly, the battery will last about two years.

Keep the phone away from heat. This includes a radiator, the oven and any sunny spots in your house. High temperatures contribute to battery wear and tear.

To help prolong rechargeable batteries, you should "condition" them on a regular basis ?- which means completely draining and recharging the batteries. First, figure out which type of battery your phone uses ?- it should be clearly visible on the label found in the owner's manual.

There are two types of batteries, and each requires a different approach: Nickel cadmium batteries have been around for awhile and use the designation NiCD. They should be completely drained and given a full charge cycle once a month.

Nickel metal hydride batteries are a newer generation and are identified with the designation NIMH. They need to be conditioned only once every three months.
Tip: The easiest way to fully discharge the battery is to wait for the power to run out before connecting the handset to the base station.

Got a dead battery? You can find a replacement at an electronics store for $10 to $30. If your phone is an older model, you may have to call the manufacturer.

Fake Google Toolbar

This is scary. I believe identity theft is a serious uncontrollable crime. Laws should be passed to punish these individuals that think it's ok to pretend they are someone else. If the punishment was more brutal, maybe the cases of identity crime will decrease.
